Earthworks PianoMic™ system ble designet for å revolusjonere oppmikking av pianoer og flygler. Målet var å kunne fange opp den enorme dynamikken og overtonespekteret som et flygel representerer. I tillegg er den designet for å kunne fungere både med åpent og lukket lokk uten eksterne stativer og sjenerende kabler rundt instrumentet. En diskret skinne med to high definition kondensatormikrofoner, og en liten tilkoblingsboks med XLR-kontakter er alt man ser. Lydlekasje fra andre instrumenter og støy er også et minimum ved bruk av Earthworks PM40. Fantastisk nøytralitet, åpenhet, og med en frekvensrespons på 40kHz er det en mikrofon som virkelig får med seg de rikeste klangfarger i et hvert flott flygel eller piano.
At the heart of the system are two Random Incidence, omnidirectional, 40 kHz High Definition Microphones™. With a frequency response of 4 Hz to 40 kHz, the mics deliver extraordinary impulse response and extremely short diaphragm setting times. In addition, the microphones exhibit no proximity effect, regardless of their distance from the piano strings or soundboard. The mics, when positioned close to the sound source, also provide incredible gain before feedback.
