NOTION3 is not just another music notation software program. It is based on a simple premise…you want your music to sound good.

NOTION3 is the first product that truly bridges the gap between notation and an audio application. So now, not only can you compose and hear your notated score played back instantly with real instrument samples, you can actually perform live or produce music that sounds simply amazing.

USER INTERFACE FEATURES

EASY SCORE SETUP
Creating a score with NOTION3 is simple, intuitive and fast. You won’t get stuck wading through long lists of options, hunt for the instruments you want or endure multiple repetitive steps every time you start a new score. With NOTION3, your instrument choices are presented in organized and logical groupings using a semi-transparent overlay on top of the score area. This enables you to quickly add, move, change, and delete staves with simple mouse click.

SIMPLY SMART TOOL PALETTE
Think of it as a musician’s tool belt with all the essential tools neatly organized within easy reach. Simply move your cursor over a graphic or text and a menu of options automatically opens. Roll over a different graphic or text, and a different menu opens. If you want quick access to a specific group of tools, you can “lock open” that particular menu. It’s your choice where to place your palette; on the score, docked at the bottom of the screen, or hide it altogether when it’s not in use.

INTERACTIVE FRETBOARD AND CHORD LIBRARY
Many guitarists find it convenient to first capture the fingerings they perform on an instrument before translating them into tab or notation. The interactive Fretboard offers a quick, convenient way to build your score by clicking virtual strings. You can customize the fretboard stringing to resemble (and capture the notes of) a 6 or 7 string guitar, 4 or 5 string bass, or other fretted instruments. NOTION3 also lets you enter chord names or select from the comprehensive chord library and add slash marks to show the rhythm.

EASIER TO USE
Sometimes you can have too many choices. Most other notation software programs try to show you all the options—all the time. As a result, you are often confronted by multiple cryptic icons that usually open pop-up windows onto your score with a whole new batch of options. NOTION3 was built using a different approach—to give you what you need when you need it. Take NOTION3’s Toolbar for example. A perfect blend of form and function, it’s sleek look and controls has the familiar look and feel of an audio component. And if your not sure what a particular button does, a tool-tip appears when you hover your cursor over the symbol with summary information.

EASIER TO LEARN
For a program with the amount of advanced capabilities and features as NOTION3, its design makes it amazingly simple to learn. You won’t have to buy books or take classes on how to master using NOTION3. In fact, the typical user can learn how to compose, produce, publish and perform a score very quickly. You don’t need strong technical skills or detailed knowledge of how to patch different pieces of equipment together—just a basic knowledge of music.

NOTION3 comes with a greatly expanded sound library that now includes all of the Guitar, Bass, and Drum samples from PROGRESSION. From Orchestral, to Jazz, to Rock, NOTION3 has the sounds to support virtually any musical genre.

EXPANDED AND ENHANCED
NOTION3 features a new enhanced sample library of the London Symphony Orchestra recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Each instrument was painstakingly recorded to capture a full set of multi-timbre samples, articulations, performance techniques, and expressions. The new NOTION3 library was recorded in stereo capturing numerous dynamic levels per sample. The end result is a fuller, richer sound with greater expression than ever before. When combined with NOTION3’s pro-audio features, scores can be played back with incredible realism.

TRUE EXPRESSIVE CONTROL (TEC)
NOTION3’s proprietary TEC Sample Management Engine automatically maps every score element to the exact sound, enabling the user to experience the full palette of sound unique to each instrument without having to deal with MIDI editing and without the need for external software or hardware.

LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The London Symphony Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras. The LSO constantly attracts the best players, many of whom also have flourishing solo and chamber music careers. The LSO also has a long association with film music, recording some of the most unforgettable film scores of our time.

GUITAR, BASS, AND DRUM SAMPLES BY NEIL ZAZA, VICTOR AND ROY WOOTEN
NOTION3 features thousands of real electric and acoustic guitar samples from world-renown guitarist Neil Zaza, the instrumental guitarist with an unparalleled ability to combine solid, catchy songwriting with a keen melodic sense and technical fury, as well as electric bass and drums samples from Grammy® Award winners Victor Wooten and Roy “Futureman” Wooten.

ADD INSTRUMENTS TO YOUR SAMPLE LIBRARY
You can purchase and download additional instruments and playing techniques to your NOTION sample library. New instruments are being added on a continuous basis. Current expansion sounds include banjo, mandolin, harpsichord, advanced playing techniques for string sections and a broad range of percussion and sound effects. Instruments can be purchased individually starting as low as $1.99.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
All orchestral NOTION Music sounds were recorded at Abbey Road Studio (studio 1) under the supervision of Recording Engineer Jonathan Allen. Electric bass and drum set sounds were recorded at Dark Horse Recording in Nashville, TN and guitar was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, NY.

Recording equipment used includes (but not limited to):
EVE 88RS console, Avalon M5 preamps, Neve preamps, Massenberg preamps, Pro Tools HD2, recorded at 96 kHz/24-bit.

Microphones used include (but not limited to):
2 Neumann M50 and 2 Neumann TLM 50s for close ambience, a Decca tree with 3 Neumann M50 for room ambience, Neumann U47fet, U67, U87, KM84, KM184, TLM 170; DPA 4003, 4006, 4011; Sennheiser MD421; AEA R84; Coles 4038 for close mics on single instruments, 5 Schoeps MK 21 for close mics on sections for dry sound of each instrument as well as custom designed microphones only available at these world-class studios.

REWIRE SUPPORT - MASTER OR SLAVE
NOTION3 is currently the only notation product to provide full ReWire functionality - including both host and slave options. ReWire, developed by Propellerhead is best described as a “virtual audio cable” that allows you to not only route audio between two different applications, but also synchronize and control them simultaneously.

Every instrument preset contains mappings for all available articulations and performance techniques, requiring nothing else of the user, but writing music. Instruments from different libraries work seamlessly together, one can even copy paste between them and preserve playback of all score markings. No hassle, just write!

IMPORT YOUR FINALE OR SIBELIUS SCORES
Through our integrated MusicXML import feature you can use the power of NOTION3 with your existing Finale or Sibelius scores. Unlike other applications, NOTION3 comes with completely integrated MusicXML import and export, without requiring a third party plugin.

OTHER FEATURES

AUDIO IMPORT
NOTION3 also provides you with the capability of importing your own audio files directly into the score. You can also export your score to a .wav file for further production use.

SAVE AS WAV, MIDI, XML
With greatly enhanced MIDI functionality, NOTION3 is capable of handling all MIDI related tasks. Edit MIDI data, overdub and record, import, export and output as well as use both notation and sequencer style staffs.

SEQUENCER STAFF

WORKING WITH MIDI ON A STANDARD STAFF
NOTION3 introduces a unique addition to the world of digital notation - the SequencerStaff. With the SequencerStaff you can record or import a MIDI performance with a familiar “midi roll”-appearance, while still working with the data on a notation staff. With color-coded velocity, controller curves and preserved pitch location on the staff, the SequencerStaff combines the best of both worlds.

EDITING MIDI ON A SEQUENCERSTAFF
Notes on the SequencerStaff can be edited similarly to how you would edit them in a sequencer. You can shorten, elongate, move them, as well as record over the existing data or re-record a passage. Colors show you the recorded velocity and your controller changes appear as curves above the staff, again, similar to how this data is represented in your sequencer.

MIDI OVERDUB
With MIDI you often need to overdub a passage or merge recorded data with new events. NOTION3 allows you to overdub your recordings in either merge or replace mode giving you full control over the resulting performance. Overdubbing is great for adding expressive controllers, recording key switches or simply trying that line one more time.

AUDIO MIXER FEATURES

MONITOR AND CONTROL
Input level meters are present on each channel strip, which give you a visual representation of the level of your signal enhanced by dynamically adjusted color intensity based on decibel output. Peak monitoring and warning as well as signal meters on each side of the fader give you a wealth of information about your audio. You can control parameters graphically, by click and drag, or numerically by typing in precise values.

SOLO, MUTE, AND STEREO “POWER” PAN
With NOTION3 panning feature you can control both left and right output individually, gaining finer control over the positioning of your sound in the stereo field. Solo and mute multiple tracks or individual channel strips, to adjust sections of your mix.

INSERT EFFECTS
Each channel can have up to four individual insert VST effects. In addition to your own collection, NOTION3 comes bundled with two fantastic plug-ins from IK Multimedia - CSR Hall, a powerful reverb unit, and AmpliTube X-GEAR, the latest in guitar and bass amp simulating.

OUTPUT
We at NOTION believe that in the end, what comes out of your speakers is what matters most. So we give you full control over where you want to send your sound. Each channel can be assigned either to a direct output of your sound card, to the stereo master, to one or all of the integrated 4 stereo buses or any combination of the above that you mix requires.

CSR HALL REVERB
CSR Hall Reverb is the hall module from IK Multimedia’s Classik Studio Reverb (CSR) collection. This highly customizable VST reverb allows you to control the spatial positioning of your sound with incredible precision. Highly effective and low on CPU demand, this excellent reverb is a great addition to NOTION3.

NOTION3's unique Performance Mode allows you to use your score in any live performance setting. With NTempo you control the performance in real time with full control over tempo and with unmatched response. Specify the precise rhythms you want your score to respond to, or let it run on a tempo you find on-the-go. Use any MIDI controller to perform with and even customize the performance commands. You can even control the dynamics of your score with the velocity of your MIDI device. Control full orchestras or play along with your own score. Anything is possible!

EXCLUSIVE FEATURES
Live happens! In a performance you may need to stop, pause, repeat or vamp. Sometimes it is planned, other times its “damage control”. In the heat of the moment, NOTION3 delivers! You can hold your fermatas, stop on your breath marks, repeat or skip out of a repeat section and get in a vamp immediately with a touch of a key.

SCORE NAVIGATION
Navigate through notes, beats, measures and rehearsal marks. Single-click on the timeline will get you where you need to be. A Go To measure feature will jump you directly to the measure you need. A performance Heads-Up Display (HUD) is showing you at all times where and “when” you are in the score. All you have to do? Perform!
