Stereo Multiband Compressor

The TUBE-TECH SMC2B Stereo Multiband Compressor brings the full music back in your mix!
The possibillity og combining sweet overall eq with individual compression of the three bands can make wonders for your mix, both on individual busses like drums, other instruments or vocals but especially on the main mix.

The SMC2B can also be used to solve/ remove anoying frequencies in basses, vocals, etc. It can even be set up as a d-esser.

SMC2B can be very effective when recording very dynamic vocalists without having to spend hours sorting problems after the recording.

SMC2B is one of the few audio processors, hat is very hard to bypass, even after a short listening test, and it will stay inserted forever because of the colour and dynamics it can add to your mixes.
These facts have made the SMC2B the favourite mixing/mastering compressor of many top mixers and mastering engineers around the world.

For Live use the SMC2B is also adding quality and musicality to top touring acts.  Try it for your own mixing, and hear the magic no other compressor can deliver!

SMC2B - User statements

Al Schmitt,  Engineer, mixer, Producer. Multi Grammy Winner. Los Angeles USA
(Dianna Crall, Natalie Cole, Shelby Lynne, Ray Charles, Chris Botti, Babara Streisand, Steely Dan,Toto.)

Al always brings his TUBE-TECH rack with him to the studios, where he works.

" I love my Tube Tech SMC2B and use it all the time!  Main use is for the mix bus compression.
- another great treat is the MMC1A for upright bass"

RALVIEH MASTERBLASTER Analogue/Digital Mastering.

Statement after buying the SMC2B:

"I am Really Happy with it !!!!!!! It gives BALLS to every Mix.

Working light, it''s warming of the sound up and bringing the musicians acting together in the Mix.
Harder driven,there''s a real PUSH

....with Straight LO´s ,warm driving mids, and sparkling, clear, never annoying highs !!!!
vocals benefit from the warm, but never muddy mid´s.
The limiters after the SMC 2B has less stress, EQ`ing is easier than before ,

the complete analog chain works better.
Apart from of a technical limiter there is no more need for plugins.
Other plugins only used for repairs, effects ......since I have the TUBE-TECH SMC2B.

The Workflow is so much better & faster than before !!!!

A lot of knobs, but very easy to use.

So I like to say THANK YOU for this
Very Cool Tool !!!!"

Joe Chiccarelli  Producer/ mix Engineer Los Angeles US.  Multi Grammy Winner.
".......I use the Tubetech SMC2B on the mix buss on many occasions. I''ve used it on tracks for Rufus Wainright, Beck ,The All American Rejects, The Offspring. I love being able to have separate compression control over three bands. Often many stereo buss compressors will squish and darken the midrange of a track. In a rock track this takes the attack and impact out of the guitars and drums . Having the separate control over all parameters I can set my attack time to be the mildest on the electric guitar range. Being able to control the frequency range in the low end works well on tracks that are very dance oriented. I can adjust the crossover point and make sure the low end never gets to overcompressed and soft...... "

Julio Reyes Copello Producer and Composer, Miami US.  Grammy Winner.

Statement after buying the SMC2B + SSA2B Summing Amp:

"Guys, thank you very much!....I just want to say that it''s been the
best investment I''ve done in the last years. These two guys are The
missing piece!. adiós to millions of frustrations.. the art of pure
and happy sound it''s there!! wow!"

 Legacy Studio, Netherlands

"The SMC2B is an absolute favourite for mastering."

SMC 2B Technical Description
Variable crossover points ensure precise control with all three bands of opto-compression. Independent band specific Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release & Gain parameters make the SMC 2B as flexible as it is accurate.

The TUBE-TECH SMC 2B Stereo Multiband Compressor features three independent optical stereo compressors. The signal is divided into three bands (Low, Mid & High) by 6 dB/octave x-over networks with variable frequencies: 60-1200 Hz for Low/Mid band and 1,2-6 kHz for the Mid/High band.

The design of the x-over networks optimizes the summing of all three bands, resulting in a flat frequency response (within +/-0,25 dB), when the gain controls for each band are set at the same level. The three compressors feature Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release and Gain and a display showing gain reduction. Master levels are set with Output Gain and Balance controls.

Both Input and Output are balanced and have fully floating transformers with a static screen. The power supply and the sidechain circuit is based on a solid state circuit. With the exception of the output stage all DC voltages are stabilised.

  • The world's only "all tube based " multiband compressor design
  • Three bands per channel with variable crossover frequencies between bands
  • Stereo sidechain with variable Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release and Gain controls for all three bands
  • Master Output Gain (off to +10 dB)
  • Balance Control (+/-1,5 dB)
  • LED display showing compression
  • Freq. response @ -3 dB: 5 Hz to 60 kHz
  • Low noise: < -60 dBu @10 dB gain
  • Conductive plastic potentiometers
  • Clickless bypass relay
